While I have been more consistent on Instagram lately, my posting here is not consistent… I don’t want to jinx it. I have a few drafted posts here and some determination to keep up with it so let’s see what happens.
Like many Americans and the rest of the world, I’m troubled by current affairs and trying to process that rapidly changing political landscape and what it means for my daily life and lives of people I know. I’m enjoying my family, working, Avowal is recording, Osi and the Jupiter is getting ready to have a new release, and I’m just generally to focus on the good things in life because this disaster will still be there. Trying to strike a balance between being informed and living.
Outside of that, I’m going to outline some things I’ve been up to and some stuff to look forward to.
Metal Horror Madness
A couple weeks ago I had a blast hanging out on video for the Metal Horror Madness podcast/vlog. Metal Horror Madman is one of my favorite online accounts and I really enjoy his perspective and passion for music. He and I touched on a lot of topics including what’s going on with Avowal, the hardships of the music industry, the future of touring, and the importance of being true to who you are… And how it can be challenging in a world where you’re exposed to so many opinions.
Listening To…
The past month or so I’ve done a lot of punk, grunge, and hardcore… early hardcore. I’ve talked about some on Instagram but I’ll need to start going more in-depth on others. I’m still not listening to much new music unless it’s instrumental, but I’d like to get back in the habit. There were some great releases last year, namely, Blood Incantation had an incredible release.
Heaviest in my rotation so far this month has been: Soundgarden, Green Day (especially because my daughter is getting into them more), Discharge, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Napalm Death, Dead Kennedys, Alice in Chains, Nirvana (mostly boots/live/raw stuff), and a slew of others. I’ve definitely sprinkled some Death, Hegemony, Lustre, and Philip Wesley too.
No Request Wednesday
On Wednesday, February 19, I will be at Westside Bowl DJing. I’ve decided to go on an 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s punk, hardcore, and metal theme. I still have to work out my entire playlist, but I’ll make a YouTube playlist after the fact and I’ll put on the Westside Bowl Spotify for anyone who wants to listen.
I’m definitely missing some but you know.
Shows
I’ll have some show announcements coming up soon for both Avowal and Osi and the Jupiter. I’m really excited to announce them! Keep an eye on my “a href=”/events”>EVENTS page for details and of course socials.
And Lastly…
I’m still trying to figure out what all I will post on this page, I’m making some changes and trying new things. At first I would put extra photos and stuff but it seems like anything with me — extra pictures — does better (outtakes) than just what I have to say. I feel like it’s a combination of people not reading as much (especially online- preferring other formats) and generally folks being more interested in looking at women than listening to us (haha – I know not all)… But yeah, just figuring some things out so for those that do pay attention to this… I’m getting it together more. And I look forward to talking to my void in space.
