Avowal had a busy year, and we decided to release Lessons in Technical Difficulties to hold us over before recording the full length. Streaming features our Brimming Horn performance and the CD includes a bonus track of three songs from our Brooklyn, NY show. We will never release the bonus track digitally. I’m a fan when there are songs that never make their way to the web.

I’m pumped about the release because it’s the first time the current line up are all together on a recording. Plus, it captures us true to form. Sometimes I find the studio to be stiff compared to a live performance. My voice is different when I’m wielding my guitar compared to standing in a studio. Maybe I’ll get better at that part of it over time. But I really like the energy of Avowal when we all feed off each other in a live setting. Party Like It’s 793 was absolutely incredible: the energy, the people… That’s been my favorite show to date.

Ray Hunter of Midland Studio Records did an incredible job with the sound and the final mix and master following. I’m so happy with how everything came out. Preview it below and support it if you feel so inclined.

I’ll close out the year with a few more shows with both Osi and the Jupiter and Avowal. My last show of the year will be in Rochester, New York with the homies in Sulaco. I will also have one more DJ night, October 23rd at Westside Bowl. You can find the shows on my events page. After that, I’ll be laying pretty low the rest of the year. I have family to tend to, work to be done, and recordings to make.

Take care,
Elyse
