For the dark avant garde music listener, Time of Death, offers an implacable sonic landscape filled with dissonant guitars, depraved vocals, and brash drumming. As a fan of De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and Monotheist, I find the darkened experimental nature of III-Hypostasis enthralling. This is not to say that Time of Death sounds like or is influenced by either band. It’s a relation I made from my personal listening habits.
No different than Cyril’s writing for Axioma, every moment of this EP is captivating. Despite having only three songs, each track is an audacious contribution to the flow of the album.
“Acceptance” is a proper introduction, setting the tone for the depravity to follow. Noah’s vocals are as vile and vicious as the lyrics that accompany it.
My favorite track at present is the second,”Extinguished,” featuring Paul Gorefiend on vocals. I love the blackened elements of the music alongside the death metal vocals. I embedded this track below.
The nefarious close, “Grey Stare,” is reminiscent of the writing used for Axioma and I’m left wondering why J Meyers is not adding some vocals to that project too. His torturous vocal style blends seamlessly with the menacing guitars. The song is dynamic and J’s vocal style works over it all.
